How To Boost Your Renovating Project Productivity
Breakfast with Mark Bouris totally transformed the productivity of my projects. A few years ago I was at an event where he was a speaker. There was an option for delegates to pay a bit extra for the privilege of having breakfast with Mark. It’s not the kind of opportunity you get every day, so I went for it!
The Business Of Delivering People’s Hopes and Dreams
Mark talked about when he was selling Wizard Home Loans to Kerry Packer. He had been through a gruelling due diligence process. Before handing over the twenty-five million dollar check, Kerry grilled him.
He asked him what business he was in. He answered simply: “Home loans”. Kerry very quickly put him straight. “No,” she said. “You’re not in the business of home loans. You are in the business of delivering people’s hopes and dreams.”
Catering To People’s Hopes And Dreams Transformed My Renovation Project Productivity
I had an “ah-ha” moment when I heard Mark’s story. I really started thinking about what we do. My business was in a transition phase. I was moving away from focusing purely on the principles of construction. Up to that point, our renovations were guided by the reno itself and the quality of the work.
Important things, for sure. But I realised that there is so much more that determines the outcome of each project. To really find your market, you need to be able to evoke an emotional response from your buyer.
The quality must be good. But, what are your buyers looking for? You need to know about the person looking at your house, and what their hopes and dreams are. That way you can deliver exactly what they want and engage their emotions when it comes to buying that property.
And that was life-changing. Greater productivity in renovating projects brought us more engaged buyers.
